Grundig GDM 311 Microphone
Since I’m back in full effect and here to stay –until I leave again- I thought I’d do a few short and sweet Deconstructions first, instead of jumping in at the deep end of typewriters and film cameras.
The Grundig GDM 311 Microphone is both short and sweet, dating from the charming but over-romanticized sixties. Alles Made in Germany, selbstverständlich, but still cute as a button. Which it doesn’t have. Just a DIN-chord and a hard plastic grille to shout away in.
I found this specimen at one of the nearby thrift shops I frequent –way too frequently- for only 3 euros, including the original packaging –which I immediately disposed of upon arriving home, since my Potential Future Projects Room is already bursting at the seams. With the magic word ‘vintage’ added to the name I’ve seen it advertised on Ebay for as much as 45 euros. If anyone is actually prepared to pay this sum, I’ll consider breaking my One Rule and reconstruct it.
While researching this little gem, I stumbled upon a wonderful Polish website full of vintage microphones. Of all sorts of brands, but microphones only. Now that’s dedication! Certainly worth a visit if you’re into this sort of thing: Old Mics.
